Enclosure (sometimes inclosure) was the legal process in England during the 18th century of enclosing a number of small landholdings to create one larger farm. Once enclosed, use of the land become restricted to the owner, and it ceased to be common land for communal use. In England and Wales the term is also used for the process that ended the ancient system of arable farming in open fields. Under enclosure, such land is fenced (enclosed) and deeded or entitled to one or more owners. The process of enclosure began to be a widespread feature of the English agricultural landscape during the 16th century. By the 19th century, unenclosed commons had become largely restricted to rough pasture in mountainous areas and to relatively small parts of the lowlands.

Als Enclosure Movement (von englisch enclosures „Einhegungen“ und movement „Bewegung“) wird die Auflösung der Allmenderechte in der britischen Landwirtschaft bezeichnet, bei der vorher gemeinschaftlich genutztes Land von privater Seite eingefriedet und intensiver genutzt wurde. Die Enclosure-Bewegung trieb die Kommerzialisierung der britischen Landwirtschaft voran. Auf ehemals gemeinschaftlich genutzten Land und Forstflächen entstanden ertragsintensive Agrarbetriebe, insbesondere im Bereich der Viehzucht, ohne die die wachsende Bevölkerung nur durch Importe hätte ernährt werden können.

Ogradzanie pól – zjawisko w historii polegające na odbieraniu biednej ludności dobrych ziem, dokonywane przez wielkich właścicieli ziemskich w Anglii i Irlandii. Zjawisko to pojawiło się w XIII wieku, największe jednak rozmiary osiągnęło z końcem XVIII i w XIX w. – w związku z tak zwaną pierwszą rewolucją przemysłową. Dzierżawcy byli wypędzani także z gruntów ornych, które zamieniano na pastwiska dla owiec (wełna) lub plantacje lnu (konkurencja dla amerykańskiej bawełny). Ogradzanie prowadziło do licznych sprzeciwów ludności chłopskiej. Najdrastyczniej przebiegał ten proces w Irlandii. Wypędzeni osiedlali się w koloniach brytyjskich, niekiedy byli wywożeni siłą. Proces ogradzania związany jest z przechodzeniem gospodarki angielskiej do systemu kapitalistycznego.
