Die Indian Motocycle Company, gegründet 1901 in Springfield (Massachusetts) durch George Mallory Hendee und Oscar Hedstrom, war einer der ersten Hersteller von Serienmotorrädern in den USA und zwischenzeitlich der größte Motorradproduzent der Welt. Der größte Teil der Maschinen von Indian waren Motorräder mit großvolumigen Zweizylinder-V-Motoren mit Seitenventil-Steuerung und Fahrwerken, die eine bequeme, niedrige Sitzposition erlaubten. Indian ging 1953 in Konkurs. In jüngerer Zeit gab und gibt es Versuche die Marke wiederzubeleben; seit 2011 im Konzern von Polaris Industries.
