Indo-Hittite
In Indo-European linguistics, the term Indo-Hittite (also Indo-Anatolian) refers to Sturtevant's 1926 hypothesis that the Anatolian languages may have split off the Proto-Indo-European language considerably earlier than the separation of the remaining Indo-European languages. The term is somewhat imprecise, as the prefix Indo- does not refer to the Indo-Aryan branch in particular, but is iconic for Indo-European, and the -Hittite part refers to the Anatolian language family as a whole.

הודו-חתית
בתורת הלשון, המונח הודו־חתית מתייחס למשפחת שפות משוערת. עיקר הסברה הוא בגריסה כי השפות האנטוליות נתפלגו מהשפה הפרוטו־הודו־אירופית במידה ניכרת של זמן לפני התפלגות יתר השפות ההודו־אירופיות. המונח איינו מדויק מילולית: הקידומת הודו איננה מתייחסת לענף ההודו־ארי, כי אם מייצגת את המשפחה ההודו־אירופית באופן כללי. כמו כן, הסיומת חתית מתייחסת לשפות האנטוליות ככלל, ולא לשפת החתים, היא הנשילי.
מוסכם בין רוב החוקרים כי ענף השפות האנטוליות נפרד מיתר השפות ההודו־אירופיות מוקדם מיתר ענפי השפה. אף על פי כן, תאריך פילוג זה הינו נושא לוויכוח. תאריך הפילוג המקובל על רוב החוקרים הוא סביב ל־4000 לפנה"ס, אולי במסגרת התפשטות הגל השני של הקורגן. חסידי התאוריה ההודו־חתית, מנגד, טוענים כי הפילוג נערך, לכל המוקדם, ב־7000 לפנה"ס. בהקשר זה, שפת־הפרוטו להודו־חתית תקרא פרוטו־הודו־חתית, ושפת־הפרוטו של יתר השפות לפני הפילוג העוקב (כפי הנראה, פילוג השפות הטוכריות) תקרא פרוטו־הודו־אירופית. התאוריה לא נוגדת את הקשר הגנטי בין דוברי השפות האנטוליות לדוברי השפות ההודו־אירופיות.
