intellection

Nous (British: ; US: ), sometimes equated to intellect or intelligence, is a philosophical term for the faculty of the human mind which is described in classical philosophy as necessary for understanding what is true or real. The three commonly used philosophical terms are from Greek, or , and Latin  and respectively. To describe the activity of this faculty, apart from verbs based on "understanding", the word "intellection" is sometimes used in philosophical contexts, and the Greek words noesis and noein are sometimes also used. This activity is understood in a similar way, at least in some contexts, to the modern concept intuition.

Verstehen ist das inhaltliche Begreifen eines Sachverhalts, das nicht nur in der bloßen Kenntnisnahme besteht, sondern auch und vor allem in der intellektuellen Erfassung des Zusammenhangs, in dem der Sachverhalt steht. Verstehen bedeutet nach Wilhelm Dilthey, aus äußerlich gegebenen, sinnlich wahrnehmbaren Zeichen ein „Inneres“, Psychisches zu erkennen. Der Begriff „Verstehen“ wird häufig dem Begriff „Erklären“ gegenübergestellt, wobei das genaue Verhältnis beider Begriffe (und Prozesse) zumeist zueinander unklar bleibt.

Verstehen (verstaan of begrijpen) wordt in de filosofie over het algemeen gebruikt in oppositie met Erklären (verklaren).

La compréhension (également appelée noûs) est un processus psychologique lié à un objet physique ou abstrait tel que la personne, la situation ou le message selon lequel une personne est capable de réfléchir et d’utiliser des concepts pour traiter cet objet de manière appropriée. La compréhension est la relation entre celui qui connaît et l’objet de la compréhension. Elle implique des capacités et des dispositions par rapport à un objet de connaissance suffisant afin de produire un comportement intelligent. Une compréhension constitue la limite d’une conceptualisation. Comprendre quelque chose signifie l’avoir conceptualisée dans une certaine mesure.
