Toxicity is the degree to which a substance can damage an organism. Toxicity can refer to the effect on a whole organism, such as an animal, bacterium, or plant, as well as the effect on a substructure of the organism, such as a cell (cytotoxicity) or an organ such as the liver (hepatotoxicity). By extension, the word may be metaphorically used to describe toxic effects on larger and more complex groups, such as the family unit or society at large.

La toxicité (du grec τοξικότητα toxikótêta) est la mesure de la capacité d’une substance ( produit chimique, radionucléide, molécule organique…) à provoquer des effets néfastes et mauvais pour la santé ou la survie chez toute forme de vie (animale telles qu’un être humain, végétale, fongique, bactérienne), qu'il s'agisse de la vitalité de l'entité ou d'une de ses parties ( foie, rein, poumon, cœur chez l'animal).

Trucizna – substancja organiczna lub nieorganiczna, która po dostaniu się do organizmu, w stosunkowo niewielkiej dawce, powoduje niekorzystne zaburzenia w jego funkcjonowaniu, inne niekorzystne zmiany w organizmie lub śmierć. Może to być ciało stałe, ciecz lub gaz. Trucizny mogą działać gwałtownie lub gromadzić się w organizmie, powodując zatrucia przewlekłe.
