In neuropsychology, linguistics and the philosophy of language, a natural language or ordinary language is any language that develops naturally in humans through use and repetition (typically, in their first few years of life) without any conscious planning or premeditation of their own. Almost always, therefore, these are the languages human beings use to communicate with each other, whether by speech, signing, touch or writing. They are distinguished from constructed and formal languages such as those used to program computers or to study logic.

Als natürliche Sprache bezeichnet man in der Sprachwissenschaft eine von Menschen gesprochene oder gebärdete Einzelsprache, die aus einer historischen, diachronen Entwicklung entstanden ist. Plansprachen sind demnach als nicht-natürliche Sprachen zu klassifizieren, da sie nicht Ergebnis autonomer historischer Entwicklungen sind. Natürliche Sprachen und Plansprachen benutzen auch Gestik, Mimik und Tonfall bzw. Sprachmelodie zur Modulation der Kommunikation. Natürliche Sprachen werden außerdem von formalen Sprachen unterschieden – im Vergleich zu diesen weisen sie strukturelle und lexikalische Vagheiten und Uneindeutigkeiten auf.

Un langage naturel, ou « langage ordinaire », est une langue « normale » parlée par un être humain. Il s'oppose au langage formel, tel que le langage informatique.

Język naturalny jest rozumiany na dwa sposoby:

• jako język stosowany przez ludzi do komunikacji interpersonalnej, w tym znaczeniu pojęcie jest stosowane głównie w dyscyplinach matematycznych i technicznych, aby odróżnić go od języków formalnych, np. od języków programowania
• jako język powstały w drodze historycznego rozwoju określonych grup etnicznych, narodowych, w odróżnieniu od języków sztucznych
