optical illusion

An optical illusion (also called a visual illusion) is characterized by visually perceived images that differ from objective reality. The information gathered by the eye is processed in the brain to give a perception that does not tally with a physical measurement of the stimulus source. There are three main types: literal optical illusions that create images that are different from the objects that make them, physiological illusions that are the effects of excessive stimulation of a specific type (brightness, colour, size, position, tilt, movement), and cognitive illusions, the result of unconscious inferences. Pathological visual illusions arise from a pathological exaggeration in physiological visual perception mechanisms causing the aforementioned types of illusions.

Eine optische Täuschung oder auch visuelle Illusion ist eine Wahrnehmungstäuschung des Gesichtssinns.

Gezichtsbedrog of een optische illusie is iets wat het oog waarneemt, dat door de hersenen anders geïnterpreteerd wordt. Gezichtsbedrog toont meestal eigenschappen van ons visueel perceptiesysteem aan, de mechanismen in de hersenen die grotendeels bepalen wat wij menen waar te nemen.

Une illusion d'optique est une illusion qui concerne le système visuel humain (depuis l'œil jusqu'au cerveau). C'est une perception de la réalité qui s'oppose à l'expérience qu'on peut en faire par ailleurs. Les illusions d'optique surviennent naturellement ou sont créées délibérément par des dispositifs qui utilisent certains principes de fonctionnement du système visuel humain. Le spectacle en tire parti ; ce sont aussi les expériences dont les neurosciences disposent pour expliquer la vision.

Złudzenie optyczne – błędna interpretacja obrazu przez mózg pod wpływem kontrastu, cieni, użycia kolorów, które automatycznie wprowadzają mózg w błędny tok myślenia. Złudzenie wynika z mechanizmów działania percepcji, które zazwyczaj pomagają w postrzeganiu. W określonych warunkach jednak mogą powodować pozornie tylko prawdziwe wrażenia.
