politicians

A politician (from Classical Greek πόλις, "polis") is a person active in party politics, or a person holding or seeking office in government. In democratic countries, politicians seek positions within a government through elections or appointment. In non-democratic countries, they employ other means of reaching power through appointment, bribery, revolutions and intrigues. Some politicians are experienced in the art or science of government. Politicians propose, support and create laws or policies that govern the land and, by extension, its people. Broadly speaking, a "politician" can be anyone who seeks to achieve political power in any bureaucratic institution.

Als Politiker wird eine Person bezeichnet, die ein politisches Amt oder Mandat innehat. Politiker sind meist Mitglied einer Partei.

Onder een politicus (meervoud: politici) wordt een persoon verstaan die een ambt of functie in de politiek vervult. Een vrouwelijke politicus wordt politica genoemd.

Une personnalité politique est une personne impliquée dans la vie politique. Plusieurs synonymes sont également employés, tels que femme politique ou homme politique. Le mot politicien est également couramment utilisé en particulier au Québec, mais peut présenter une connotation péjorative dans d'autres pays de la francophonie. En effet, il s'emploie souvent pour parler de quelqu'un qui ne vit que de ses fonctions politiques et fait preuve d'une grande habileté dans les intrigues de la vie politique.

Polityk – osoba działająca w sferze polityki, którą w klasycznym rozumieniu pojmujemy jako sztukę zdobywania władzy i rządzenia państwem, przy czym celem jest tu dobro wspólne, a przyporządkowanie działania temu celowi ostateczne. Polityk dąży więc do udziału we władzy lub do wywierania wpływu na podział władzy.
