The Book of Psalms, Tehillim in Hebrew ( or   meaning "Praises"), commonly referred to simply as Psalms or "the Psalms", is the first book of the Ketuvim ("Writings"), the third section of the Hebrew Bible, and a book of the Christian Old Testament. The title is derived from the Greek translation, ψαλμοί psalmoi, meaning "instrumental music" and, by extension, "the words accompanying the music." The book is an anthology of individual , with 150 in the Jewish and Western Christian tradition and more in the Eastern Christian churches. Many of the psalms are linked to the name of King David, although his authorship is not accepted by modern Bible scholars.

Das Buch der Psalmen ( sefer tehillim) ist ein Buch der hebräischen Bibel (Tanach) und des Alten Testaments der christlichen Bibel. Im jüdischen Kanon steht das Psalmenbuch am Anfang des dritten und letzten Teils, der „Schriften“ ( Ketuvim), im christlichen Kanon dagegen vor den großen Propheten bei den Weisheits- bzw. Lehrbüchern an zweiter Stelle hinter dem Buch Ijob.

Psalmen (Hebreeuws: תהילים) is een van de boeken in het Oude Testament. De psalmen zijn liederen. Het boek bevat volgens de Masoretische Tekst 150 psalmen.

Een psalm is een religieuze liedvorm als een lied of beurtzang, waarvan de tekst een vertaling is die komt uit een van de 150 psalmen uit het bijbelboek Psalmen. Het zingen of voorlezen op verheven toon van psalmen is afkomstig uit de joodse traditie. In de synagogale traditie zijn dit gebeden voor allerlei gelegenheden.

Le livre des Psaumes ( Sefer Tehillim en hébreu, Livre des Louanges ; كتاب المزامير kitab al mazamir en arabe), aussi appelé Psautier, est un livre de la Bible. Il est le premier de la section des Ketouvim, selon le canon de la Bible hébraïque. Dans l’Ancien Testament des chrétiens, sa place a été variable. Elle s’est fixée au entre le livre de Job et celui des Proverbes.
