resort

In North American English, the term "resort" is used for a self-contained commercial establishment which attempts to provide for most of a vacationer's wants while remaining on the premises, such as food, drink, lodging, sports, entertainment, and shopping. The term may be used to identify a hotel property that provides an array of amenities and typically includes entertainment and recreational activities. A hotel is frequently a central feature of a resort, such as the Grand Hotel at Mackinac Island, Michigan. Some resorts are also timeshare or fractionally owned, or wholly owned condominium complexes. A resort is not always a commercial establishment operated by a single company, although in the late twentieth century this sort of facility became more common.

Ein Resort ist eine touristische Hotelanlage mit einem über den reinen Beherbergungsbetrieb hinausgehenden Angebot. Resorts sind sowohl im Sektor preisbewussten Massentourismus als auch im gehobenen Tourismus zu finden (z. B. in der 5-Sterne-Kategorie, dort dann auch Residence genannt). Neben dem reinen Hotelbetrieb werden in Resorts oft auch Villen unterschiedlicher Standards angeboten.

Generalmente, una estación turística se distingue por una gran selección de actividades, como las relacionadas con la hostelería (comida, bebida, alojamiento), el ocio, el deporte, el entretenimiento y las compras.

Een resort (Engels voor "verblijf") is een verblijfsoord dat (meestal) gericht is op luxe en comfort. Een resort kan een vakantieverblijf zijn, maar ook bijvoorbeeld een conferentieoord. Naast een recreatieve of een sportieve functie kan een resort ook een (al dan niet tijdelijke) woonfunctie hebben.
