To reuse is to use an item again after it has been used. This includes conventional reuse where the item is used again for the same function, and creative reuse where it is used for a different function. In contrast, recycling is the breaking down of the used item into raw materials which are used to make new items. By taking useful products and exchanging them, without reprocessing, reuse help save time, money, energy, and resources. In broader economic terms, reuse offers quality products to people and organizations with limited means, while generating jobs and business activity that contribute to the economy.

Eine Reuse (in Ostfriesland auch: Fuke) ist eine stationäre Vorrichtung zum Fang von Vögeln (Vogelreuse), Fischen und anderen Wassertieren. Molchreusen werden heute zum Nachweis von Amphibien genutzt.

Wiederverwendung ist das Prinzip, Aufwand und Material einzusparen, indem eine an einer Stelle nicht mehr benötigte (und damit erneut verfügbar gewordene) Sache an anderer Stelle eingesetzt wird. Durch diese Vorgehensweise erspart man die Vernichtung (auch Zerlegung oder Beseitigung) der nicht mehr benötigten Sache und die Erstellung einer neuen Sache.

Återanvändning innebär att en produkt som anses vara förbrukad i sin situation flyttas till en ny situation där den kan tjäna ett syfte. Vanligtvis sker återanvändning utan någon bearbetning. Återanvändning är generellt det mest miljövänliga och enklaste sättet för samhället att ta tillvara på saker som ägaren vill få bort. Vid återanvändning används produkten igen, utan ändringar av design eller material, till skillnad från återvinning som innebär att produktdesignen förstörs och att man endast tar till vara på materialet för att tillverka nya produkter.
