rhyme

A rhyme is a repetition of similar sounds (or the same sound) in two or more words, most often in the final syllables of lines in poems and songs. The word rhyme is also a pars pro toto ("a part (taken) for the whole") that means a short poem, such as a rhyming couplet or other brief rhyming poem such as nursery rhymes.

Der Reim ist im weiteren Sinne eine Verbindung von Wörtern mit ähnlichem Klang. Im engeren Sinne ist der Reim der Gleichklang eines betonten Vokals und der ihm folgenden Laute. Dieser Laut kann je nach Dichtungstradition am Anfang des Wortes (Anlaut), in der Mitte oder am Ende stehen. Beispiel: lauf – sauf; laufen – saufen; Laufender – Saufender. In der linguistisch orientierten Lyriktheorie werden Reime als phonologische Überstrukturierung aufgefasst.

Men spreekt van rijm als twee woorden in de beklemtoonde lettergrepen een klankgelijkheid hebben. Rijm speelt een belangrijke rol in gedichten en wordt daarom als een stijlfiguur gezien.

La rime est en poésie un jeu d'homophonie entre des phonèmes  répétés à la fin de plusieurs vers (c'est une forme d'homéotéleute). La rime est ainsi constituée par le retour de sonorités identiques, à commencer par la dernière voyelle tonique  et des sons consonantiques qui la suivent s'ils existent, à la fin d'au moins deux vers.
