In England, Wales and Northern Ireland,
school governors are members of a school's Governing Body. In
state schools they have responsibility for raising school standards through their three core strategic functions of:
a. Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
b. Holding the headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils; and
c. Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.
