Semantics
Semantics (from semantikós, "significant") is the study of meaning. It focuses on the relation between signifiers, like wordsphrasessigns, and symbols, and what they stand for; their denotation. Linguistic semantics is the study of meaning that is used for understanding human expression through language. Other forms of semantics include the semantics of programming languages, formal logics, and semiotics. In international scientific vocabulary semantics is also called semasiology.

semantics
The study of relations between a representation and what it represents. <Discussion> <References> Chris Eliasmith

semantics, functional role
The view that the meaning of a representation is the role of that representation in the cognitive life of the agent. It is an extension of the well known "use" theory of meaning as it supplements external use by including the role of a symbol inside a computer or a brain.
