In Greek mythology, Styx (; ) is a deity and a river that forms the boundary between Earth and the Underworld (the domain often called Hades, which also is the name of its ruler). The rivers Styx, Phlegethon, Acheron, Lethe, and Cocytus all converge at the center of the underworld on a great marsh, which sometimes is also called the Styx. According to Herodotus, the river Styx originates near Feneos. Styx is also a goddess with prehistoric roots in Greek mythology as a daughter of Tethys, after whom the river is named and because of whom it had miraculous powers.

Styx (, bei Homer , Wasser des Grauens) ist in der griechischen Mythologie neben Acheron, Lethe, Kokytos, Phlegethon und Eridanus ein Fluss der Unterwelt und eine Flussgöttin. Im Griechischen ist die Styx weiblich, was für griechische Flussnamen selten ist. Im Deutschen sind beide Geschlechter – sowohl der als auch die Styx – geläufig.

Styx ist eine Rockband aus Chicago (USA), die vor allem während der 1970er und 1980er Weltruhm erlangte. Styx gehört zu den bekanntesten Vertretern des Adult Orientated Rock.

Styx is een Amerikaanse band die in 1972 debuteerde met het album Styx. Pas na de komst van de zanger-gitarist Tommy Shaw in 1975 werd de band bekend bij het grote publiek. Het leidde tot een serie albums, zoals Crystal Ball, The Grand Illusion en Pieces of Eight.

Styx heeft in de mythologie twee betekenissen.

Dans la mythologie grecque, Styx (en grec ancien , du verbe , « détester, haïr ») est une Océanide, fille aînée d'Océan et de Téthys, ou une déesse, fille d'Érèbe (les Ténèbres) et de Nyx (la Nuit) selon d'autres traditions. Elle personnifie le Styx, un des fleuves des Enfers.

Styx est un groupe rock américain originaire de Chicago, qui atteignit le sommet de sa popularité dans les années 1970 et au début des années 1980. Il fut le premier groupe à obtenir des certifications platine aux États-Unis pour quatre albums consécutifs.
