Taxanes are diterpenes produced by the plants of the genus Taxus (yews) featuring a taxadiene core. They are widely used as chemotherapy agents. Taxane agents include paclitaxel (Taxol) and docetaxel (Taxotere). In 2010 another Taxane, cabazitaxel was FDA approved to treat hormone-refractory prostate cancer.
