Woodwind instruments are a family of musical instruments within the more general category of wind instruments. There are two main types of woodwind instruments:  flutes and reed instruments (otherwise called reed pipes). What differentiates these instruments from other wind instruments is the way in which they produce their sound.

Holzblasinstrument ist die herkömmliche Bezeichnung für Blasinstrumente, bei denen die Schwingung der Luftsäule mittels Luftblatt oder Rohrblatt erzeugt wird. Die Instrumente bestehen nicht immer aus Holz; beispielsweise waren die ersten bekannten Flöten aus Knochen hergestellt, und viele heutige Holzblasinstrumente werden aus Metall oder Kunststoffen gebaut. Andererseits besteht z. B. der Zink aus Holz, ist aber wegen der Art seiner Schwingungserzeugung zu den Blechblasinstrumenten zu zählen.

Onder houtblazers worden in de muziek verstaan (de bespelers van):

• blokfluit (kleine sopranino/Garklein, sopraninoblokfluit, sopraanblokfluit, altblokfluit, tenorblokfluit, basblokfluit, grootbasblokfluit, contrabasblokfluit/subbasblokfluit);
• dwarsfluit, meestal gewoon "fluit" genoemd (ook: piccolo, altfluit en basfluit);
• hobo (ook: Engelse hoorn (althobo), oboe d'amore en Heckelfoon);
• klarinet (ook: esklarinet, altklarinet, bassethoorn en basklarinet);
• fagot (ook: contrafagot);
• saxofoon (Soprillo, sopraninosaxofoon, sopraansaxofoon, altsaxofoon, tenorsaxofoon, baritonsaxofoon, bassaxofoon, Contrabassaxofoon en Subcontrabassaxofoon ).

Famille d'instruments de musique à vent, les bois se caractérisent par leur système d'émission du son constitué soit par un biseau comme les flûtes, soit par la vibration d'une anche simple comme la clarinette ou double comme le hautbois.

Instrument dęty drewniany – instrument dęty, w którym wibratorem jest drewniany stroik, bądź krawędź, o którą rozpraszany jest strumień powietrza. Sam instrument może być wykonany z dowolnego materiału, np. drewna, metalu, lub tworzywa sztucznego.
