With the surrender of Japan in 1945, and the subsequent liberation of Korea, liberty itself became a predominant theme of its films. Choi In-gyu's Viva Freedom! (; Jayu manse!), about Korean freedom-fighters during the waning days of the colonial period, is considered the major film of this era.
