The
Communist Party of Spain (,
PCE) is the third-largest national
political party in Spain. It is the largest member organization of the
United Left electoral coalition and has influence in the largest
trade union in Spain,
Workers' Commissions (CCOO). The PCE was characterized by the struggle against the
Franco dictatorship, during which period it was illegal. It was legalized in 1977 by
Adolfo Suárez as one of the forces necessary to establish democracy in
Spain.
