The
Empire of Harsha was an
ancient Indian empire founded and ruled by Emperor
Harsha from the capital
Kannauj. It existed from 606 to 647 and at its height covered all of the
North India. Although the empire was short-lived, the peace and prosperity that prevailed made the court of Harsha a center of
cosmopolitanism, attracting scholars, artists and religious visitors from far and wide, such as the Chinese traveler
Xuanzang.
