The sources for the figures are; the most recently published Higher Education Statistics Agency statistics, from 2013-2014. The student numbers include full-time and part-time, and are broken down into undergraduate and postgraduate students. Some institutes enroll students in both higher education and further education courses, so student numbers may be higher for such institutes. The data shows that 2.3 million people were enrolled in higher education at the United Kingdom's 163 universities.
