Maradu is a region in the city of
Kochi, in the state of
Kerala,
India. It is part of the
Ernakulam district. A variety of shopping constitute the area. The Kochi Metro passes near Maradu. The Mangayil Government High School is a landmark there. The land and school for this institution were offered as a gift by the Mangayil family of the area and hence the name. The Mangayil family were quasi chieftains of the area who maintained a jailhouse among other things. They had some level of hereditary power over the area ceded to them by the Cochin royals prior to independence.
