The
Arakanese language (also known as
Rakhine ; ,
MLCTS:
rakhuin bhasa) is often considered a dialect of
Burmese. "Arakan" is the former name for the
Rakhine region. Arakanese can be divided into three dialects:
Sittwe–
Marma (about two thirds of speakers),
Ramree, and
Thandwe.
