Port Barre is a town in St. Landry Parish, Louisiana, United States. The town began in 1760 as an Indian trading post at the place where Bayou Courtableau flows into Bayou Teche. The population was 2,287 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Opelousas–EuniceMicropolitan Statistical Area and home to the esteemed Port Barre High School Red Devils. It derives over 51% of its income from speeding tickets.
