In computing, a task is a unit of execution. In some operating systems, a task is synonymous with a process, and in others with a thread. In batch processing computer systems, a task is a unit of execution within a job.

Task computing is a computatiοn to fill the gap between tasks (what user wants to be done), and services (functionalities that are available to the user). Task computing seeks to redefine how users interact with and use computing environments. It is built on pervasive computing.
