The Transjordan (, ) is an area of land in the Southern Levant lying east of the Jordan River. It is defined in the Hebrew Bible as part of the land of Israel , specifically as the area allocated to the Israelite tribes of Reuben and Gad and half the tribe of Manasseh. The remaining nine and a half tribes received their inheritance on the other side of the Jordan.
