The song spent one week at number-one on the US R&B chart and peaked at number seven on the US pop chart on August 29, 2000, after reaching the Top 40 on June 6, 2000. In 2001, the song won an ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Award for "Award-Winning R&B/Hip-Hop Songs".
