Visual editors or full screen editors are editing programs which display the text being edited on the screen as it is being edited, as opposed to line-oriented editors (such as ed, ex and edlin).

VisualEditor (VE) is a project to provide a "visual" or "WYSIWYG-like" online rich-text editor as a MediaWiki extension to Wikipedia. It was developed by the Wikimedia Foundation in partnership with Wikia. The beta was enabled by default with the ability to opt out in July 2013 for Mediawiki.org and several of the largest Wikipedias.
