Azerbaijan is administratively divided into the following subdivisions:

• 59 districts (rayonlar; sing.– rayon),
• 11 cities (şəhərlər; sing.– şəhər),
• 1 autonomous republic (muxtar respublika), which itself contains:
  • 7 districts
  • 1 city
