The Cimmerians or Kimmerians (, Kimmerioi) were an ancient Indo-European people living north of the Caucasus as early as 1300 BC. In the 8th century BC, under pressure from the Scythians, they migrated around the Black Sea. Linguistically they are usually regarded as Iranian, or possibly Thracian with an Iranian ruling class.
