The term Dnieper Ukraine (, literally “over Dnieper land”), usually refers to territory on either side of the middle course of the Dnieper River. The Ukrainian name derives from nad- (prefix: “above, over”) + Dnipró ("Dnieper") + -shchyna (suffix denoting a geographic region).
