The Carolingian Empire (800–924) was the final stage in the history of the  early medieval realm of the Franks, ruled by the  Carolingian dynasty. The size of the empire at its zenith around 800 was 1,112,000 km², with a population of between 10 and 20 million people.

Francia or Frankia, also called the Kingdom of the Franks , Frankish Kingdom, Frankish Empire, Frankish Realm or occasionally Frankland, was the territory inhabited and ruled by the Franks, a confederation of Germanic tribes, during Late Antiquity and the Early Middle Ages.
