Mexico City ( ; abbreviated as "CDMX") is the capital of Mexico. On January 29, 2016, it ceased to be called the Federal District (Spanish: Distrito Federal or D.F.) and is now in transition to become a "state" with more autonomy. Mexico City is the country's largest city as well as its most important political, cultural, educational and financial center.
