Ceratophyllum is a
cosmopolitan genus of
flowering plants, commonly found in ponds, marshes, and quiet streams in tropical and in temperate regions. They are usually called
coontails or
hornworts, although hornwort is also used for unrelated plants of the division
Anthocerotophyta.
