Gottorp

Gottorf Castle (, Low German and Danish: Gottorp) is a castle and estate in the city of Schleswig, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. It is the ancestral home of the Holstein-Gottorp branch of the House of Oldenburg. It is situated on an island in the Schlei, about 40 km from the Baltic Sea.

Gottorf (dänisch, niederdeutsch Gottorp) hat unterschiedliche Bedeutungen:

Schloss Gottorf (niederdeutsch: Slott Gottorp, dänisch: Gottorp Slot) in Schleswig ist eines der bedeutendsten profanen Bauwerke Schleswig-Holsteins. Es wurde in seiner über achthundertjährigen Geschichte mehrfach umgebaut und erweitert, so dass es sich von einer mittelalterlichen Burg über eine Renaissancefestung bis hin zu einem Barockschloss wandelte. Es war namensgebend für das herzogliche Haus Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorf, aus dem im 18. Jahrhundert unter anderem vier schwedische Könige und mehrere russische Zaren hervorgingen.

Gottorf, Gottorp of Gottorf wordt gebruikt voor:

• een Noord-Duitse vorstelijke dynastie Huis Oldenburg, zie Holstein-Gottorp
• het kasteel slot Gottorp van dit vorstengeslacht in de stad Sleeswijk.
