The
Khalil is a
Pashtun tribe son of
GhoryaKhel Pashtun primarily living in
Pakistan with some members in
Nangarhar,
Herat,
Ghazni ,
Qandahar of
Afghanistan and in the
Peshawar valley. To the west and south-west of
Daudzai lie the settlements of the Khalils. GhoryaKhel had three sons, the edlest being named Khalil, middle was Mohamand (not to be confused with the Mohmand in the mountains between Afghanistan and Pakistan), and the third and youngest was Daud. All three of these tribes were named after the sons of GhoryaKhel and settled around Peshawar. The dividing center between the Khalil and Mohmand area is the Bara and the first village after the Bara stream towards the East claimed both by the Khalils and Mohmand tribes is "Sheikhan". The Khalils like
Mohmands and Daudzais claim to be descendants of (Muhammad Ibrahim)
Ghoryakhel, son of
Kand. There are eight main sub-divisions in the Khalil tribe.
- Astanzai
- Mattezai
- Barozai
- Ishakzai
- Trakzai
- Noorzai
- Afuzai
- Akazai
