Paterno Castle (New York City)
Paterno Castle was an estate in the Hudson Heights section of the Washington Heights neighborhood of ManhattanNew York City which featured a Neo-Gothic mansion built in 1905 and based on a European castle. It was owned by its namesake, the real estate developer and philanthropist, Dr. Charles V. Paterno. The castle cost more than half a million dollars to build. The interior featured a cellar dedicated to raising mushrooms and a swimming pool which employed filtered water from the nearby Hudson River, while, the grounds featured Italian gardens and pergolas.
