Talysh Mountains (,
Kuh-ha:-ye Ta:lesh) is a mountain range in southeastern
Republic of Azerbaijan and northwestern
Iran. See
Lankaran Lowland for map. The range forms the northwest section of the
Elburz Mountains, extending southeastward from the
Lankaran Lowland in southeast Azerbaijan to the lower part of the
Sefid Rud (
White River) in northwest Iran. Few peaks rise above 10,000 ft (3,000 m) and the humid semi-
subtropical coastal lowlands along the
Caspian Sea, including the Lankaran Lowland, lie at the eastern base of the mountains.
