Torkamanchay
Torkamanchay (; ; also Romanized as Torkamanchay, Torkaman Chay, Torkmancay, Turkmanchai, Turkemanchay, Turkomanchay, Turkmanchai, Torkaman Chay, Torkamanchai, and Turcoman Chie; also known simply as Torkaman) is a city in and the capital of Torkamanchay District, in Meyaneh CountyEast Azerbaijan ProvinceIran. A suburb of Mianeh, it is well known for the Treaty of Turkmenchay of 1828, which concluded the last Russo-Persian War, and by that the forced cession of what is now Armenia, the parts of the contemporary Republic of Azerbaijan which hadn't yet been ceded in 1813, as well as Igdir to Imperial Russia. At the 2006 census, its population was 6,434, in 1,645 families.
