astrophysics

Astrophysics is the branch of astronomy that employs the principles of physics and chemistry "to ascertain the nature of the heavenly bodies, rather than their positions or motions in space." Among the objects studied are the Sun, other stars, galaxies, extrasolar planets, the interstellar medium and the cosmic microwave background. Their emissions are examined across all parts of the electromagnetic spectrum, and the properties examined include luminosity, density, temperature, and chemical composition. Because astrophysics is a very broad subject, astrophysicists typically apply many disciplines of physics, including mechanics, electromagnetism, statistical mechanics, thermodynamics, quantum mechanics, relativity, nuclear and particle physics, and atomic and molecular physics.

Die Astrophysik beschäftigt sich mit den physikalischen Grundlagen der Erforschung von Himmelserscheinungen und ist ein Teilgebiet der Astronomie. Als Erweiterung der klassischen Astronomie (vor allem aus Astrometrie und Himmelsmechanik bestehend) macht sie heute große Bereiche der astronomischen Forschung aus. In der deutschen Hochschulpolitik ist die Astrophysik als Studienfach gemeinsam mit der Astronomie als Kleines Fach eingestuft.

De astrofysica is specifiek het deel van de astronomie dat de processen die zich afspelen in sterren probeert te verklaren met natuurkundige wetten en meer in het algemeen de processen die in het heelal waarneembaar zijn probeert te verklaren .

L’astrophysique (du grec astêr = étoile, astre et physis = science de la nature, physique) est une branche interdisciplinaire de l'astronomie qui concerne principalement la physique et l'étude des propriétés des objets de l'univers (étoiles, planètes, galaxies, milieu interstellaire par exemple), comme leur luminosité, leur densité, leur température et leur composition chimique.
