Hepatocellular carcinoma (
HCC), also called
malignant hepatoma, is the most common type of
liver cancer. Most cases of HCC are secondary to either a viral
hepatitis infection (
hepatitis B or
C) or
cirrhosis (
alcoholism being the most common cause of liver cirrhosis).
