- repair or replace faulty or worn-out components without having to replace still working parts,
- prevent unexpected breakdowns,
- maximize a product's useful life,
- maximize efficiency, reliability, and safety,
- meet new requirements,
- make future maintenance easier, or
- cope with a changed environment.
