profession

A profession is a vocation founded upon specialised educational training, the purpose of which is to supply disinterested objective counsel and service to others, for a direct and definite compensation, wholly apart from expectation of other business gain. The term is a truncation of the term "liberal profession", which is, in turn, an anglicisation of the French term "profession libérale". Originally borrowed by English users in the 19th century, it has been re-borrowed by international users from the late 20th, though the (upper-middle) class overtones of the term do not seem to survive retranslation: “liberal professions” are, according to the Directive on Recognition of Professional Qualifications (2005/36/EC) “those practised on the basis of relevant professional qualifications in a personal, responsible and professionally independent capacity by those providing intellectual and conceptual services in the interest of the client and the public”.

Beruf ist die im Rahmen einer arbeitsteiligen Wirtschaftsordnung aufgrund besonderer Eignung und Neigung systematisch erlernte und mit Qualifikationsnachweis versehene, dauerhaft gegen Entgelt ausgeübte spezialisierte Betätigung eines Menschen. Der Begriff ist abzugrenzen vom häufig als Synonym benutzten Wort "Job", das zwar auch auf eine Erwerbstätigkeit hinweist, jedoch in der Regel nicht an eine besondere Eignung oder Ausbildung gebunden ist.

Een beroep of stiel (soms het Franse woord métier) is een samenhangend geheel van arbeidstaken, die voor de uitvoering een bepaalde vakkennis en -kunde vereisen, die losstaand van de individuele beroepsbeoefenaar kan voortbestaan en voor de maatschappij herkenbaar is. Een beroep bepaalt mede de positie van de beoefenaar in de sociale structuur.

La profession, du latin professio (« déclaration, déclaration publique, action de se donner comme ») est le métier exercé par une personne. Soit une activité manuelle ou intellectuelle procurant un salaire, une rémunération, des revenus à celui qui l'exerce. Il constitue également un rôle social.

Un métier est d'abord l'exercice par une personne d'une activité dans un domaine professionnel, en vue d'une rémunération.
Par extension, le métier désigne le degré de maitrise acquis par une personne ou une organisation du fait de la pratique sur une durée suffisante de cette activité (expérience et savoir-faire acquis, voire amélioration des pratiques si ce métier le permet).

Zawód – zbiór zadań (zespół czynności) wyodrębnionych w wyniku społecznego podziału pracy, będących świadczeniami na rzecz innych osób, wykonywanych stale lub z niewielkimi zmianami przez poszczególne osoby i wymagających odpowiednich kwalifikacji (wiedzy i umiejętności), zdobytych w wyniku kształcenia lub praktyki. Wykonywanie zawodu stanowi źródło dochodów. Szczególnym rodzajem zawodu jest profesja.
