Tenure – termin angielski oznaczający
stałą posadę,
etat, najczęściej jednak używany w kontekście naukowym (także w polskim żargonie uniwersyteckim), by określić
posadę z gwarancją zatrudnienia. W
USA posada
tenure wiąże się z awansem ze stanowiska
assistant professor (odpowiednik
adiunkta) na
associate professor lub bezpośrednio na
professor (pełnoprawny profesor). Każdy
adiunkt ma ok. 6-7 lat na wykazanie swoim dorobkiem, że zasługuje na
tenure, po jego uzyskaniu praktycznie nie można go już zwolnić (wyjąwszy przestępstwa, zaniedbania pracownicze, itp.). Na niektórych uczelniach (np. na
MIT)
tenure uzyskuje się osobno i niezależnie od awansów na kolejne stanowiska (w szczególności typowe jest uzyskanie najpierw stanowiska
associate professor, a dopiero później
tenure, przyznanego już bez jednoczesnego awansu). Warto jednak zauważyć, że większość dochodów profesorów w
USA pochodzi nie z pensji, a z grantów badawczych.
