Veto is a Hungarian surname.

A veto – Latin for "I forbid" – is the power (used by an officer of the state, for example) to unilaterally stop an official action, especially the enactment of legislation. A veto can be absolute, as for instance in the United Nations Security Council, whose permanent members (China, France, Russia, United Kingdom, United States of America) can block any resolution. Or it can be limited, as in the legislative process of the United States, where a two-thirds vote in both the House and Senate may override a Presidential veto of legislation. A veto gives power only to stop changes, not to adopt them (except for the rare "amendatory veto"). Thus a veto allows its holder to protect the status quo.

VETO ist eine dänische Indie-Rock-Band, die im Jahr 2004 in Aarhus gegründet wurde. Im gleichen Jahr wurden sie vom dänischen Label Tabu Records angestellt, über das sie 2005 ihre erste EP und 2006 ihr erstes Studioalbum veröffentlichten. Ihr zweites Studioalbum, Crushing Digits, erschien im Mai 2008 und wurde von Sony BMG vertrieben. Seit der Auflösung von Sony BMG zum 1. Oktober 2008 ist Sony Music Entertainment für den Vertrieb ihrer Werke verantwortlich.

Ein Veto (lateinisch veto „ich verbiete“) ist das Einlegen eines Einspruches, das innerhalb eines formell definierten Rahmens geschieht und damit Entscheidungen aufschieben oder ganz blockieren kann.

Lajos Veto (* 17. Oktober 1904 in Kondoros; † 22. September 1989 in Budapest) war ein ungarischer evangelisch-reformierter Pastor, Bischof der Ungarisch-Reformierten Kirche und Religionspsychologe.

La palabra veto procede del latín y significa literalmente '[yo] prohíbo'. Se utiliza para denotar que una determinada parte tiene el derecho a parar unilateralmente una determinada pieza de legislación. Un veto, por tanto, proporciona poder ilimitado para parar cambios, pero no para adoptarlos.

Le mot veto (ou véto) vient du latin et signifie littéralement Je m’oppose. Il est utilisé pour indiquer qu'une partie d'un groupe a le droit d'arrêter unilatéralement une décision commune. Un véto donne donc un pouvoir illimité de blocage législatif.

Un véto peut être :

• L’orthographe réformée de veto, opposition unilatérale bloquant un projet ou une loi ;
• Une abréviation familière pour un vétérinaire (véto’ pour un respect formel de la typographie d’une abréviation familière).
