Apollo

Apollo (Attic, Ionic, and Homeric Greek: , Apollon ( ); Doric: , Apellon; Arcadocypriot: , Apeilon; Aeolic: , Aploun; ) is one of the most important and complex of the Olympian deities in classical Greek and Roman religion and Greek and Roman mythology. The ideal of the kouros (a beardless, athletic youth), Apollo has been variously recognized as a god of music, truth and prophecy, healing, the sun and light, plague, poetry, and more. Apollo is the son of Zeus and Leto, and has a twin sister, the chaste huntress Artemis. Apollo is known in Greek-influenced Etruscan mythology as Apulu.

Apollo (originally Apollon musagète and variously known as Apollo musagetes, Apolo Musageta, and Apollo, Leader of the Muses) is a ballet in two tableaux composed between 1927 and 1928 by Igor Stravinsky. It was choreographed in 1928 by twenty-four-year-old George Balanchine, with the composer contributing the libretto. The scenery and costumes were designed by André Bauchant, with new costumes by Coco Chanel in 1929. The scenery was executed by Alexander Shervashidze, with costumes under the direction of Mme. A. Youkine. The American patron of the arts Elizabeth Sprague Coolidge had commissioned the ballet in 1927 for a festival of contemporary music to be held the following year at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C.

Apollon (, lateinisch Apollo, deutsch auch Apoll) ist in der griechischen und römischen Mythologie der Gott des Lichts, der Heilung, des Frühlings, der sittlichen Reinheit und Mäßigung sowie der Weissagung und der Künste, insbesondere der Musik, der Dichtkunst und des Gesangs; außerdem war er der Gott der Bogenschützen. Als Sohn des Zeus und der Göttin Leto gehörte er wie seine Zwillingsschwester Artemis zu den Olympischen Göttern, den zwölf Hauptgöttern des griechischen Pantheons. Das Heiligtum in Delphi, die bedeutendste Orakelstätte der Antike, war ihm geweiht.

Apollon (Oudgrieks: , Apóllôn, of , Apéllôn) was een van de belangrijkste godheden, die in de Griekse mythologie voorkomen. Van alle goden was zijn eredienst de meest algemeen verspreide onder het Griekse volk en genoot er het hoogste aanzien. Onder de verlatiniseerde naam Apollo raakte hij bekend in Rome. De oudste afbeeldingen van Christus verraden een verwantschap met de iconografie van Apollo als schone goddelijke jongeling.

Apollon (en grec ancien , en latin ) est le dieu grec du chant, de la musique, de la beauté masculine et de la poésie. Il est également dieu des purifications et de la guérison, mais peut apporter la peste grâce son arc ; enfin, c'est l'un des principaux dieux capables de divination, consulté, entre autres, à Delphes, où il rendait ses oracles par la Pythie. Il a aussi été honoré par les Romains, qui l'ont adopté très rapidement sans changer son nom. Dès le , ils l'adoptèrent pour ses pouvoirs guérisseurs et lui élevèrent des temples.
