Carpathians

The Carpathian Mountains or Carpathians are a range of mountains forming an arc roughly long across Central Europe, making them the second-longest mountain range in Europe (after the Scandinavian Mountains, ). They provide the habitat for the largest European populations of brown bears, wolves, chamois and lynxes, with the highest concentration in Romania, as well as over one third of all European plant species. The Carpathians and their foothills also have many thermal and mineral waters, with Romania having one-third of the European total. Romania is likewise home to the largest surface of virgin forests in Europe (excluding Russia), totaling 250,000 hectares (65%), most of them in the Carpathians, with the Southern Carpathians constituting Europe’s largest unfragmented forested area.

Die Karpaten (früher: Karpathen, tschech., slowak. und poln. Karpaty, ukrain. Карпати [Karpaty], rumän. Carpați, ungar. Kárpátok, serb. Карпати [Karpati]) sind ein Hochgebirge in Mitteleuropa, Osteuropa und Südosteuropa. Sie bilden einen über 1.300 km langen, 100–350 km breiten, nach Westen offenen Bogen, der am Nordwestrand des Wiener Beckens mit dem Karpatenvorland, beziehungsweise bei Bratislava (Pressburg), beginnt und an den Flüssen Morava, Nišava und Timok im Osten Serbiens endet. Die Karpaten sind der nördlichste Teil des alpidischen Gebirgsgürtels, innerhalb dessen sich westlich die Alpen und südlich Balkan und Rhodopenmassiv anschließen, während Dinariden und Apenninen nach Südwesten versetzt parallel liegen.

De Karpaten (Tsjechisch, Pools en Slowaaks: Karpaty, Oekraïens: Карпати (Karpaty), Roemeens: Carpați, Duits: Karpaten, Servisch: Karpati, Hongaars: Kárpátok) zijn een hooggebergte in Midden-Europa.

Les Carpates (, , , , , , , , jadis parfois orthographiées Carpathes ou Karpathes) constituent la partie orientale de l’ensemble montagneux situé au centre de l’Europe, dont les Alpes constituent la partie occidentale. Les Carpates et les Alpes partagent les mêmes origines tectoniques et géologiques. Les Carpates s’étendent sur les territoires de l’Autriche, de la Slovaquie, de la Pologne, de la République tchèque, de la Hongrie, de l'Ukraine, de la Roumanie et de la Serbie.

Karpaty (51-54) (węg. Kárpátok; rum. Carpați; ukr. i serb. Карпати; czes. i słow. Karpaty; niem. Karpaten) – łańcuch górski w środkowej Europie (jeden z największych w tej części świata), ciągnący się łukiem przez terytoria ośmiu krajów: Austrii, Czech, Polski, Słowacji, Węgier, Ukrainy,  Rumunii i Serbii. Najwyższy szczyt Gerlach ma wysokość 2655 m n.p.m.
