Celluloseether

Celluloseether sind Derivate der Cellulose. Durch partielle oder vollständige Substitution der Wasserstoff-Atome in den Hydroxy-Gruppen der Cellulose entstehen verschiedene Celluloseether wie Carboxymethylcellulose (CMC), Methylcellulose (MC), Ethylcellulose (EC), Hydroxyethylcellulose (HEC), Hydroxyethylmethylcellulose (HEMC) oder Hydroxypropylmethylcellulose (HPMC). Diese Reaktion wird als Veretherung bezeichnet. Die Cellulose kann in einem thermokatalytischen Verfahren aus Holz gewonnen werden. Hochwertige Cellulose entstammt Baumwolle.
