Claude Elwood Shannon (* 30. April 1916 in Petoskey, Michigan; † 24. Februar 2001 in Medford, Massachusetts) war ein amerikanischer Mathematiker und Elektrotechniker. Er gilt als Begründer der Informationstheorie.
