Fenicia

Phoenicia ( or ; from the , ; , ) was an ancient Semitic thalassocratic civilization situated on the western, coastal part of the Fertile Crescent and centered on the coastline of modern Lebanon, Israel and Syria. All major Phoenician cities were on the coastline of the Mediterranean, some colonies reaching the Western Mediterranean. It was an enterprising maritime trading culture that spread across the Mediterranean from 1500 BC to 300 BC. The Phoenicians used the galley, a man-powered sailing vessel, and are credited with the invention of the bireme. By their innovations in shipbuilding and seafaring, the Phoenicians were enabled to sail as far west as present-day Morocco and Spain carrying huge cargoes of goods for trade. They were famed in Classical Greece and Rome as 'traders in purple', referring to their monopoly on the precious purple dye of the murex snail, used, among other things, for royal clothing, and for the spread of their alphabets, from which almost all modern phonetic alphabets are derived.

Die Phönizier (auch Phönikier) waren ein semitisches Volk des Altertums, das hauptsächlich in Phönizien im Bereich des jetzigen Libanons und Syriens an der Mittelmeerküste lebte. Die wichtigsten Stadtstaaten waren Akko, Arados, Byblos, Berytos, Karthago, Sidon und Tyros, wobei Tyros zwischen 1000 und etwa 774 v. Chr. und anschließend Karthago bis 146 v. Chr. (dem Ende des Dritten Punischen Krieges) die führenden Mächte waren.

Fenicia (en fenicio 𐤊‏𐤍‏𐤏‏𐤍‏, kanaʿan; o 𐤐‏𐤕‏, Pūt) es el nombre de una antigua región del cercano oriente, cuna de la civilización fenicio-púnica, que se extendía a lo largo del Levante mediterráneo, en la costa oriental del mar Mediterráneo. Su territorio abarcaba desde la desembocadura del río Orontes al norte, hasta la bahía de Haifa al sur, comprendiendo áreas de los actuales Israel, Siria y Líbano, una región denominada antiguamente Canaán, con cuya denominación se engloba muy a menudo en las fuentes.

De Feniciërs of Phoeniciërs waren de inwoners van Fenicië (Phoenicië) dat ongeveer het huidige Libanon bestrijkt. Het zijn ca. 1200 v.Chr. Kanaänieten die de verwoestingen van de Zeevolken in steden als Ugarit, Aradus en Sidon hebben overleefd.

Les Phéniciens sont un peuple antique originaire des cités de Phénicie, région qui correspond approximativement au Liban actuel. Ces dénominations proviennent des auteurs grecs qui ont écrit à leur sujet. En effet la Phénicie a toujours été divisée entre plusieurs cités, dont les plus importantes étaient Byblos, Sidon, Tyr et Arwad, et on ne sait pas si celles-ci ont eu conscience d'une identité commune. Les historiens ont repris l'adjectif « phénicien » pour désigner la civilisation qui s'est épanouie dans la région entre 1200 et 300 av. J.-C.
